Helford Prize

The Prize: $10,000 and a potential production by Jacksonville University
Eligibility: The competition is open to all U.S. Residents.

The Play:

1. A play submitted to the competition should be finished, original, in English, and must not have been previously published or performed.
2. The play must be a full length production (One-Acts and shorts will not be considered) and should have a running time of between 90 and 120 minutes.
3. There are no restrictions regarding theme or genre, although children's plays are discouraged.
4. The submitted work should be in 12 pt., easy-to-read font, and must have page numbers at bottom of every page.
5. If the submission is a musical, it must include score and a recording of the music.
6. The number of actors needed for the play should be between 5 and 10.

Jacksonville University will have first production rights for the winning play. The playwright will retain all other rights, including copyright, publication and performance rights. If for some reason, Jacksonville University is not able to produce the winning play within two years of the announcement of the winner, first production rights revert to the playwright.

Submitting a Play:

1. Submit 3 copies of your play bound; because the play will be submitted to the juries anonymously, the author’s name should not appear on any page of the play.
2. Plays should be submitted with a cover sheet containing the following
information:

a. Playwright's name
b. Playwright's address
c. Title of play
d. Playwright's phone number and e-mail address
e. A signed statement that the play has not been previously produced or published.

3. Deadline for Submission: Plays must be received by the Jacksonville University National Playwriting Competition on or before May 15, 2008.

The copies of the plays submitted will not be returned. Please do not send one
and only originals.

he plays will initially be read by the Jacksonville University Review Committee.
Three finalists will then be submitted to the Bruce Helford for final judging. The
selection process should be complete by August 31, 2008.
