Family Nurse Practitioner Program
Is this program online?
No, the FNP program is a campus based program. While the program takes advantage of innovative hybrid scheduling and online learning. Students are required to meet in person. The MSN-FNP program holds class on JU campus every Wednesday.

How long is the program?
Both part-time and full-time attendance is offered. The program will take approximately 2 years to complete as a full-time student and about 3 years as a part-time student. There is no part-time enrollment option for post-master’s students.

Can I work and participate in the FNP program?
We have no formal guidelines prohibiting students from working during the program. However, we do advise students that this is a rigorous program that requires a commitment of time, and students should plan accordingly.

Do I need a GRE?
Students whose overall undergraduate GPA is above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale are not required to complete the GRE.

How many credit hours is the program?
The FNP program is 40 credit hours.

How many clinical hours are involved?
Students will experience 630 clinical hours during the course of their degree. These hours will be in mental health, pediatric, adult and women’s health. The majority of the clinical hours are completed within a clinical immersion course in the final semester of the program. During this final semester, the student will spend approximately 3 days per week in clinical.

How much is the program?
Tuition for the 2016-2017 school year is $565 per credit hour. Tuition changes year by year and tuition changes usually go into effect the fall semester.

Do I need a BSN or can I apply with my non-nursing bachelor’s degree?
A BSN from an accredited college or university is required to apply for the FNP program.

When can I apply?
Our program accepts students once a year for the fall semester. Applications are reviewed February 1st of every year; those accepted will start fall semester. If you are not selected during the admission cycle and wish to reapply, you will be required to resubmit an application the subsequent year.

Can I take classes as a non-degree or transient student?
Unfortunately, due to limited space we cannot accommodate students who are not fully admitted as Jacksonville University students in the FNP program.

Are Transfer credits accepted?

We will evaluate any graduate coursework completed with grades of 'B' or higher from regionally accredited MSN and DNP programs for transfer credit. If coursework is determined as equivalent for a course in our MSN program, it may then be applied to exempt students from taking the course again during their MSN program at JU. All MSN-FNP students are capped at 9 credit hours of transfer credit, and all transfer credit must be transferred in at the time of admission, and will not be accepted after a student has started the program.
