Position Summary

The Graduate Assistant for the River House is a paraprofessional staff member and will work directly with the operations and management of the River House – a student centric campus facility that includes premier meeting rooms, lounge space, event programming venues, and an on-site restaurant/pub. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will help plan, promote, and execute regular programs held in the event space. The Graduate Assistant will serve in the capacity to support the mission, vision and goals of Recreation and Operations, Division of Student Life, and Jacksonville University.

Essential Job Duties

  • Supervise Student Employees – Student Supervisors and Student Assistants
    • Hire, train and evaluate student employees
    • Develop staffing schedules, coordinate all HR paperwork, submit payroll
    • Facilitate River House staff meetings and Recreation & Operations group training sessions
    • Serve on-call for emergencies after business hours, weekends, and holidays
    • Collaborate with Director to design and create monthly and annual reports
  • Manage building programming – regular programs throughout building
    • Help plan, promote and execute weekly and monthly student events throughout academic term
    • Survey student body regarding activity preferences
    • Keep all records of activity planning and participant list
    • Serve as professional staff in charge during scheduled activities
  • Manage facility reservation system for internal and external clients
    • Approve reservations and place events in reservation calendar
    • Conduct walk-throughs and site visits with campus departments, student organizations, and external clients
    • Coordinate space set-up, program logistics, and staffing needs
    • Coordinate catering and technology needs
  • Monitor facility upkeep, cleanliness and report maintenance issues
  • Participate in ongoing evaluation to assess your growth and development
  • Participate in event staffing for Student Affairs events throughout the year
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Admission to – as well as continuous enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in – a Jacksonville University Master’s Degree program or University of North Florida Master of Education program;
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Demonstrated leadership in the college and university setting;
  • High level of comfort with frequent student contact, with residing on campus, and being accessible outside of traditional office hours;
  • Ability to advise and manage diverse student workers
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully balance, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment, while providing superior constituent service;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented, student-centered environment;
  • Excellent oral, written, computer, problem-solving, critical thinking, and fiscal management skills; and
  • Social media skills are a plus.

Compensation

  • Stipend of $10,000 over a 10 month period, August 1 – May 15.
  • Graduate assistants are provided housing on campus in a private residence hall room furnished by the university, with utilities and parking provided.
  • A partial meal plan is provided, subject to the schedule of on-campus dining facilities.
